It isn’t always easy to figure out who ultimately controls the advice you receive. Many advisers work for institutions (banks, insurance companies, fund managers) that have a direct interest in where you choose to invest your savings or place your insurance premiums. On the investment side we are fortunate to have access to Money Management Magazine’s “Top 100” dealer list (see link below). Click the link to see the latest “who owns who” information about the investment industry. It also gives you a stack of other interesting information about the big end of the market, including how people get paid, how many advisers some dealers have and even where they plan to host the next conference for their best (most productive) advisers.
We will try to make more “who owns who” information available here as it comes to hand.
You may be surprised to see who owns or controls your adviser.
